In the tech industry for over 18 years, Kani was most recently at Pivotal helping industry leaders transform the way they build software, innovate, and disrupt business by adopting a Silicon Valley mindset. Prior to starting Code Chrysalis, Kani attended and worked at a Silicon Valley coding bootcamp.
Yan started coding when she became disillusioned by her job in commodities trading while living in Singapore. Since then, Yan has worked as a developer at Ayasdi, n instructor for Reactor Prep, an intro to programming course run by Hack Reactor and CTO of a coding bootcamp in Jordan.
Yan holds degrees in Economics, Arabic, and Chinese from Dartmouth College. She likes the use of the Oxford comma and prefers spaces over tabs.
Masayasu holds degrees from UC Berkeley, Harvard University, and Cambridge University. Upon his return to Japan, he became founding board members of ALC PRESS INC., which he took public in 2006. That same year Masayasu founded Hitomedia, Inc., an incubator dedicated to the growth of people where he currently serves as CEO.
In addition, Masayasu serves as director in various other local and global companies and NPO’s. Masayasu is also an author and teaches at several universities.
Yo Umeda is a founding partner of Present Agency Inc. and is a creative director, art director and designer with over twenty years of experience in the industry. He has led campaigns for numerous iconic brands such as Apple, Nike, Adidas, and Sony. Formerly the Creative Director at TBWA Media Arts Lab, Yo was entrusted with the the responsibility of overseeing various global campaigns for Apple, including the iPhone 5 global launch campaign. He also built the agency’s international creative department, later managing the entire APAC team of over 80 creatives in 5 offices across the globe. He is the proud father of two young daughters.
Kristin is a social entrepreneur, public speaker, visionary and investor in youth. Kristin is currently the Chief Partnership Officer at IGNITE National, building a national movement to inspire young women to run for public office. She is also the Co-Founder of VisionVenture, that exists to inspire, equip, accelerate and invest in changemakers' Visions. She is an Ashoka fellow and Impact HUB Ambassador and currently based in San Francisco.
Shu was most recently a technical lead at EdSurge, an edtech startup in Silicon Valley which connects edtech buyers/sellers to improve learning outcomes for K-20 learners. He also writes a popular Japanese blog covering education, innovation and silicon valley. Previously, he was a product designer at Quora and a software engineer at Palantir. He holds Masters in Human-Computer Interaction and B.S. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.
Dr. Robert E. Cole
Professor Cole is Professor Emeritus of the Haas School of Business and Department of Sociology, University of California, Berkeley. He served first as Omron Prof. of Technology Management and more recently as as Visiting Researcher, Institute of Technology, Enterprise and Competitiveness at Doshisha University in Kyoto Japan from 2004 to the present.
Dr. Cole has researched and published extensively in the fields of organizational change, quality and knowledge management mostly related to the Japanese and U.S. auto industries. Since 1990, his research has focused on the hi-tech sector and has published a number of articles and books on the Japanese IT & software industry.

In August 2015, Danny relocated to Tokyo with his family to lead the founding team of Pivotal Labs Tokyo. In March 2017, Danny took managing responsibility for all of the Pivotal Labs practices in the Asia Pacific and Japan region.

Fang Chen - iOS
Fang is a Swift, Objective-C, and iOS developer. A self-taught programmer, Fang started doing iOS development when the iPhone was still in its infancy. He is currently an iOS Foundation Engineer at TextNow, a company focused on creating the most exceptional and affordable phone service. He was previously engineer #2 at SmartSpot, a Y-Combinator-backed start-up. He was also a contributor to MyActivityPal, Everest and other companies and early stage products in Silicon Valley.
Rewon Child - Machine Learning
Rewon works at Baidu's Silicon Valley AI Lab, where he focuses on improving state of the art in machine learning for speech recognition and natural language processing. He previously worked at the startup Enlitic, where he worked to apply deep learning algorithms to medical imaging. During his undergraduate study at Yale, he used natural language processing techniques in the study of government and spent several years doing research in Japan and China. In addition to his current work on speech recognition, he works on language learning applications using machine learning and serves as technical advisor for several startups.
Richard Kho - React
Richard Kho is a software engineer in San Francisco. He currently works for Capital One writing front-end applications in React and Angular and is the author of the technical book React Native by Example. He has taught algorithms to software engineers at Hack Reactor and mentors aspiring software engineers in his free time.
Dan Fiore - Software Engineer
Dan found his passion for programming early in childhood and he’s been at the keyboard ever since. He graduated with a Computer Science degree from Union College, graduated from a Silicon Valley Coding Bootcamp, and has over 10 years of Software Engineering experience and 5 years of Course Development experience, working in both private industry and university, most recently for Stanford University. Dan is excited about the possibilities of fusing education and technology, and enjoys sharing his knowledge of programming with others.
Rohan Pethiyagoda - Software Engineer
Rohan Pethiyagoda is a software engineer in San Francisco working primarily with back-end technologies and distributed systems. He graduated from the University of Cambridge (UK) in 2010 and has since worked in various technical capacities in industry, strategy consulting, and, at a series of Silicon Valley startups. When he's not experimenting with his own online startup ventures, he leads the back-end team for a location-based social app, currently in stealth mode. He graduated from Hack Reactor in 2014 and has mentored several aspiring engineers from their first lines of code through to their current positions as engineers working across the stack in Fortune 100 companies.
